Welding Methods
1. TIG Welding (Gas Tungsten Arc Welding, GTAW)
TIG welding is the most widely used process for stainless steel pipe fittings. It employs a non-consumable tungsten electrode to generate the arc, with inert argon gas shielding the weld pool from oxidation. Filler wire is added manually as required.
Applicable scenarios: Thin-wall stainless steel pipes, sanitary pipe fittings (food, pharmaceutical, pure water), high-pressure pipelines.
Features: Low heat input, stable arc, excellent weld bead formation.
2. MIG/MAG Welding (Gas Metal Arc Welding, GMAW)
Continuous consumable stainless steel wire is fed automatically. Argon or argon-mixed gas acts as shielding gas.
Applicable scenarios: Thick-wall pipe fittings, large-diameter pipes, factory batch production.
Features: High welding efficiency, suitable for long welds; greater heat input than TIG.
3. SMAW Welding (Shielded Metal Arc Welding / Manual Arc Welding)
Uses coated stainless steel welding rods. The coating decomposes to form protective gas and slag during welding.
Applicable scenarios: Field installation, repair work, positions with limited gas supply.
Features: Portable equipment; weld appearance and corrosion resistance are inferior to TIG.
4. Plasma Arc Welding (PAW)
Similar to TIG, but the arc is compressed into a high-energy plasma jet.
Applicable scenarios: Medium-thickness stainless steel pipe fittings, deep penetration welding.
Features: Strong penetration ability, narrow heat-affected zone.
5. Laser Welding
High-density laser beam melts the base metal. Can be used with or without filler metal.
Applicable scenarios: Precision thin-wall fittings, automated mass production.
Features: Extremely low heat distortion, high precision, fast speed; high equipment cost.
